Our crawler

Pigment lists exhibitions and open studios from the public websites of galleries, museums and tour organisers. A program reads those sites for us. This page says what it reads and how to stop it.

How to recognise it

Every request it makes names us:

PigmentGuide/1.0 (+https://pigment.guide/crawler)

If you see that in your logs, it is us.

What it reads

  • A venue’s name, address and website.
  • Its current and upcoming shows: titles, dates, artists, the description and pictures.
  • For an open-studios tour, the artists taking part, their studio numbers and addresses, as the organiser published them.

Public pages only. It never signs in, fills in a form or reads anything behind a password, and it does not keep email addresses or phone numbers.

Your work stays yours

  • Pigment never copies or stores your pictures. Each one is shown from your own site, at the address you published it, so if you take it down there it is gone from Pigment too.
  • Nothing the crawler reads is used to train AI models.

How often

About once a week for each city we cover, and when we add a city. It waits at least a second and a half between requests to the same site, and does not ask again for a page it has read in the last day.

How to stop it

Add this to your site’s robots.txt:

User-agent: PigmentGuide
Disallow: /

It checks robots.txt before it reads a page, so this takes effect on its next visit. To keep it out of part of a site, disallow just that path. Rules for every crawler (User-agent: *) apply to it too.

Blocking it stops it reading your site; it does not take down what is already listed. To have a listing changed or removed, ask us here.

Write to us

If the crawler is causing you trouble, write to support@pigment.guide and a person will reply.
